I don’t want other people using my wireless connection. I notice there are several other Wireless Networks in my area but they are all “security enabled” and require a Network Key to access. How can I configure mine so that a user needs to use a network key? I seem to have gone into all the options I can find for Advanced settings, Firewalls etc. I’ve even changed the encoding to WEP and entered a Network Key but my connection resets itself back to Encoding: “disabled” and I am still on an Unsecured Network with “Open access”. (I’m on Windows XP) Thanks for any help you can offer.
Will it matter that my router is not the same brand as my wireless card?

It disables SSID broadcasting, which prevents unauthorized users from accessing the network.
It encrypts the data that is broadcast between the wireless access point and the wireless clients.
It restricts computer access to a wireless access point.
It transmits signals only within the network area.

Does key renewal mean the wireless router will automatically change my passphrase after the set amount of seconds before it does the key renewal? I also have a choice of using WPA-PSK, WPA2-PSK, and WPA-PSK/WP2-PSK. Does it matter which one I pick?
Also which encryption should I use TKIP or AES?

i want to set up a wireless internet security camera at another home where there is no internet available. Is there a self contained camera that I can just plug in and it either sends the signals to a monitor 30 miles away or can send signals to the internet so I can watch over the net?

My friend brought his laptop over here and he needs the security code to get into my internet. I don’t remember it. It’s the “Network Key” that I’m looking for. How do I get it? Thanks.
Okay. Question rephrase time. I used the WEP which worked. However, it says the signal is excellent but the connectivity in Limited or there is no conncetivity. What now?

how do i boost the signal on a wireless camera setup. its signal strength is about 300ft wich equates to about 40ft-50ft in the real world (cell phone interferance, radio signal interferance etc.) what device is used to boost the signal for these types of devices and how does it work? i need a signal strong enough for it to work up to about 700ft through walls and stuff, the tiny camera is going to be mounted on a small rc car and driven in my backyard : ) there i said it.

I subscribed to monitoring service with a Home Security Monitoring company. I have wireless security equipment installed.
Recently they told me that the government require them to replace the analog radio tower system with digital radio tower system. This results in I need to replace my wireless security equipment as well, otherwise it won’t be able to connect to the new radio tower. They charged me $100 for that. Since I’m still in a contract with them, I think I shouldn’t pay that $100.
So, do anybody have experience in this matter? Is the new regulation for real? Do the customers really have to pay for that required upgrade by the government regulation even when they’re still in a contract?
Thanks! I appreciate any inputs.
